PTA Advocacy

Berkeley Schools Excellence Program (BSEP)

The citizens of Berkeley have shown their support for the fully rounded education of our children through the Berkeley Schools Excellence Program (BSEP), a parcel tax which funds smaller class sizes, school libraries,  music arts programs, teacher development, and much, much more.  The Berkeley PTA Council and the schools we represent provided strong support for the ballot measures which resulted in the approval of a vast majority of Berkeley voters, 80% in the latest election in 2006.

Enrollment and Capacity Planning - Dealing with Overcrowding in BUSD

Berkeley schools have historically gone through boom-and-bust cycles in our student population. Both ends of these cycles cause both financial and educational issues which call for more holistic approaches to ensure that all our students have equal resources to succeed. The Berkeley PTA Council and our member school units are committed to working with BUSD administration and School Board to establish plans and monitoring processes to reduce the disruption caused by shifts in demographics and demand on facilities.
