First Meeting of the School Year
BUSD Offices (2020 Bonar Street) Room 126
We hope that your new school year is off to a great start!
Please join us for the first PTA Council meeting of the year, Monday, September 25th from 6:30-8:00, in room 126 of BUSD offices at 2020 Bonar Street. (Enter on Allston Way; plenty of street parking, and a big lot around the corner on Browning.)
As mentioned in a previous announcement, we have a new Council President to elect, so please be sure to attend the meeting so that we can have a quorum to welcome Mara Kolesas (Rosa Parks parent) to office.
Please come prepared to share: what issues are arising at your school site, what successes or best practices do you wish to share? For our first meeting we will focus on sharing with each other, and gathering ideas for important topics for the coming year.
Council meetings are held once a month, on the fourth Monday of the month, in District headquarters at 2020 Bonar Street (if there is a scheduling conflict, like a holiday, we move it to a new date.) All meetings go from 6:30-8:00. We are prompt about wrapping things up so everyone can get home, but if the discussion is really good, we sometimes ask if folks want to go later. We always serve food and drinks.
Our goal is to make our meetings relevant, interesting, and informative; the last thing we want is to drag you out for yet another meeting just for the sake of having a meeting. Last year, our gatherings included conversations and presentations about equity and best practices in afterschool programming, BUSD homework policy updates, BUSD communications policy, PTA budgets and fundraising, proportional staffing, and a presentation by Ashanti Branch of The Ever Forward Club on how we can positively impact the lives of our boys of color. We always try to keep space for community sharing about best practices or requests for advice.
