Berkeley PTA Council February Meeting

Monday, February 24, 2020 - 6:30pm to 8:00pm
Location:

BUSD Technology Meeting Room, 2020 Bonar St Room 123

AGENDA:
6:30 - introductions.

6:35 - Budget cuts. Presentation by Superintendent Brent Stephens, plus Q&A. The state recently announced COLA funding formulas that were far lower than expected, so the Superintendent is proposing a net $1 million in cuts to the General Fund for 2020-21. Because spending on certain programs will need to increase, gross cuts to programs will need to be roughly $2.8 million. None of this will directly impact the portions of the budget with dedicated funding, such as BSEP, LCAP, teacher/staff raises, or buildings maintenance.

6:55 - LCAP funding and equity goals for 2020-21. Presentation by BUSD consultants Perry Chen and Palak Shah, plus discussion.

7:15 - Family Engagement Hub plan. Presentation by Office of Family Engagement and Equity Supervisor Ann Marie Callegari about plan for centralizing distribution of resources to improve access for families, plus discussion.

7:35 - BHS sexual assault. Presentation by Superintendent Brent Stephens and brief remarks by School Board President Judy Appel, plus discussion.

8:10 - Discussion and vote: Shall the Berkeley PTA Council endorse the Schools and Communities First measure for the November ballot, and shall we encourage PTAs to help with signature gathering for the measure after the March 3 election? https://www.schoolsandcommunitiesfirst.org

8:15 - adjourn.
