PTA Council meeting agenda
6:30 - Introductions
6:35 - Campaign for Measures E, G, and H - how PTAs can get involved. Presentation by Gail Carson Hedrick (the campaign’s staffer) and Jennifer Shanoski (campaign co-chair), plus discussion. This is a nuts-and-bolts organizing session. Gail and Jennifer will help each school plug into the campaign’s plans for phone banking, door-to-door leafleting, and other tasks. There’s something for everyone to do! … more info at campaign website: www.
7:05 - Equity and Inclusion update, led by Ana Vasudeo, PTA Council VP.
- 10 minutes discussion: PTA council grant proposal to the Peralta District PTA. to have Pamela Harrison-Small speak to all PTAs about “Building a Welcoming, Inclusive, and Inspiring School Environment" (see grant application info: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScT_xD9365ujBWZ49wu7oEnqEqCsjb3...) . Pamela Harrison-Small used to speak at Emerson but she hasn't done this training in some years due to lack of funding. We can vote to apply for funding so that we can offer her training district wide. Last time she did this training was in 2014 (https://www.facebook.com/emersonpta/posts/tonight-pamela-harrison-small-...). Vote - shall the Berkeley PTA Council apply for a grant from the Peralta District PTA for this purpose?
- 20 minutes update and discussion about Vision 2020. Ana will update us on the presentations on this topic at the School Board’s Dec. 11 meeting (see attachments to this email), and will lead a discussion about how the PTA Council and individual PTAs could proceed.
7:35 - Vision Zero - Safe Routes to Schools, led by Ana Vasudeo and Liza Lutzker.
7:55 - Extended Day Learning, led by Mara Kolesas, PTA Council Executive VP. Update from BUSD’s Extended Day Task Force last year - what was accomplished? What still remains to be done, and how can we move this forward? The issue will be discussed at greater length at our January meeting.
8:05 - PTA Council Treasurer’s report, led by Jane Logan and Tom Killilea.
8:15 - Adjourn.
